Meta shut down the Basic Display API. Here's what that means for Behold users.

Meta deprecated the Instagram Basic Display API in December of 2024. In this post we’ll explain what changed, and what you need to do to if you have feeds created before then.

Personal Instagram accounts are no longer supported

To start, it’s no longer possible to access a personal Instagram account via the official API. Effective immediately, newly connected Instagram sources must be Business or Media Creator accounts.

Luckily, switching from a personal account to a professional account is both easy and reversible. When you try to connect a personal account to Behold, you will see a notice, like this:

Just click “change” and follow the provided steps.

Reauthorizing legacy sources

To reactivate any legacy sources (and their associated feeds) created before the deprecation, log in to your Behold dashboard, click the three dots next to a source and then Reauthorize in the popup menu.

Advanced sources got better

We’ve added support for connecting advanced sources using a Facebook Business Portfolio. Sources connected this way have a major benefit: They do not need to be reauthorized every three months 🎉.

There are a few steps, but a business portfolio is easy to set up. Just connect an advanced source through the Behold dashboard and follow the instructions in the Facebook authorization flow. Your business portfolio will need a Facebook page with the relevant Instagram account connected to it.

You will still be able to connect the old way by choosing Facebook User when connecting a source (see the image below).

And that’s it

Sudden changes like this are a hassle, but we’ve tried to make the transition as easy for you as possible. And there are some real benefits to the new setup.
